Will Heiko SPFs turn my skin white?

Heiko uses Zinc Oxide as its active ingredient. Zinc Oxide is a white pigment, therefore it expected that a white 'film' will remain on the skin; it should not be expected to completely absorb. It is important to have the visible layer of these sunscreens as it verifies that it is providing that physical block. To reduce the appearance of the white 'film' from Zinc Oxide, Heiko SPF products are formulated with a 100% natural ingredient, providing a more natural skin tone to the product. |

What is the difference between nanoparticles and micronized sunscreen forms?

Nanoparticles are particles defined as less than 100 nanometers in diameter, or 0.1 micron. Micronized particles are generally between 0.1 micron and 100 microns. 100 microns is 0.1 millimeter, which is the size of a fine grain of sand and as a sunscreen, would be useless because it would be impossible to evenly apply. Nanoparticles have received some bad press recently by the media, questioning whether nanoparticle sunscreens increase the ability for zinc oxide to cross the skin and get absorbed into the bloodstream. All mineral sunscreens on the market are comprised of either micronized or nano particles. Heiko uses zinc oxide particles in the range of 0.18 and 0.26 microns, which means they are micronized but not nano. |
